Thompson optimistic about goal century

Melbourne Victory striker Archie Thompson has been waiting for his 100th national league goal for the past six games but he is confident his pursuit of the personal milestone will soon be over.
The veteran forward has scored 60 goals for his current A-League club so far, while his spells at the Gippsland Falcons, Carlton SC and Marconi had produced 39 strikes earlier in his career.
While he has been quite swift in getting to the 99 goal-mark, completing the milestone is proving slightly difficult for him, as he hasn't scored since putting one in the back of the net on January 13 in Victory's 1-1 draw with Adelaide United.
Earlier today, Thompson said: "Obviously the goals have dried out a little bit for me over the last five or six games, I'm happy with what I am contributing to the team and hopefully I can put a good performance on Saturday for the club because they are must win games for us and the focus for me is Saturday.
"I think the start of the season, I was getting one, maybe two chances and they were going in. This second half of the season, I've been putting myself in good positions and Harry (Kewell) and Carlos (Hernandez) have been setting me up and unfortunately they haven't been going in."
The former Australian international admitted that his finishing touch has been lacking in the past few matches but is confident that his mini drought will end in the upcoming matches.
Australia are 201.00 to win the 2014 World Cup, while hosts Brazil are 4.50 and defending champions Spain 6.00.
